Description
The Spyderco Sage 5 light-weight C123PBK is a new release for 2019 and a valuable addition to the already extended Spyderco Sage collection. For this collection Spyderco always uses the same design. The difference, however, is that for each model a different lockings mechanism, or type of material is used.
The Sage 5 Light-weight is enhanced with the popular Compression Lock. This lock became famous on the Paramilitary 2 models. This version works like a type of reversed liner lock. The controls are on the spine of the handle. The way it locks is also different. A linerlock, for instance, only falls against the blade. The lockbar of a Compression Lock falls into the cut-out in the blade and gets caught in between the blade and stop pin. As a result this lock is one of the strongest on the market.
The scales are made from FRN. This is a light and strong material that offers you enough grip. The Sage 5 is enhanced with steel liners. Barely visible from the outside because they are inserted in the inside of the scales. Difficult to produce, but it looks amazing. The combination of these materials and techniques also ensure a greatly reduced weight. The Sage Light-weight weighs only 82 grams and is as such lighter than its predecessors in the Sage collection.
You can easily open the Sage 5 with the large thumb hole. Characterizing for a Spyderco pocket knife. The blade is made from CPM S30V steel. For years it has been a popular choice in the high-end pocket knife world. All in all, the Spyderco Sage 5 is a great example of technology. A desired knife that belongs in every pocket knife collection.
Part of the proceeds from the Sage 5 is donated to the National Alzheimer’s Association in Denver, Colorado.
