Description

The Spyderco Lil’ Native CPM 15V Compression Lock C230GPBN15V Brown G10, Sprint Run is a premium Sprint Run edition of the famous Lil’Native. This special edition is enhanced with a blade made from CPM 15V steel.

CPM 15V is a high vanadium and high chromium content steel from the Crucible Particle Metallurgy line, designed for exceptional wear resistance and sharpness retention. Spyderco’s Sprint Run series of CPM 15V knives is even more exclusive due to a specialised heat treatment protocol developed by renowned custom knife maker Shawn Houston. To clearly distinguish this model as part of the CPM 15V series, this knife features Shawn Houston’s ‘Triple B’ logo, laser-engraved on the back of the blade.

The Spyderco Lil’ Native CPM 15V Compression Lock C230GPBN15V Brown G10, Sprint Run pocket knife is a nice EDC knife in the colour light-brown. With its blade length of 6.5 cm, it’s a compact pocket knife that effortlessly fits inside your pocket. You can also notice this in the weight of 70 g. You’ll barely notice you’re carrying it with you!

Opening the Spyderco Lil’ Native CPM 15V Compression Lock C230GPBN15V Brown G10, Sprint Run pocket knife with one hand is very easy thanks to the thumb hole. Once opened, the sturdy Compression Lock ensures that the blade is locked and won’t accidentally close during use. The Compression Lock is an invention by Sal Glesser and his son Eric Glesser ofSpyderco. In terms of operation, it’s kind of like a reverse liner lock. However, in practice, the Compression Lock is much stronger. This is because the lock wedges laterally between the blade tang and the stop pin, rather than just making contact with the blade. What’s more, a Compression Lock has a very high ‘fidget factor’.

Steel type: CPM 15V
The blade of this Spyderco is made of CPM 15V steel. CPM 15V is an extremely wear-resistant tool steel manufactured by Crucible Industries in the USA. This steel is famous for its excellent sharpness retention, which is a result of the high level of vanadium carbides (14.5%). Compared to CPM S30V, M4 or even S90V, CPM 15V stays sharp even longer, but it is harder to sharpen and less tough. This means it is especially suitable for cutting tasks where maximum sharpness retention is more important than toughness.

The ‘stonewash’ process was chosen for the finish of this blade. The stonewash process involves the blade being placed inside a drum with ceramic stones, or media, and then vibrated or tumbled for several hours. The result is a finish that looks precisely polished or roughened depending on the version. The advantage of stonewashing, however, is that signs of use are much less noticeable. That makes it a popular choice for knives that see a lot of use.

G10 handle

The Spyderco Lil’ Native CPM 15V Compression Lock C230GPBN15V Brown G10, Sprint Run pocket knife features a handle made from G10 and measures 8.9 cm in length. G10 is a composite material made of glass fibre and synthetic resin. With its subtle texture, G10 feels great in hand and offers plenty of grip. Moreover, it is incredibly strong, so it can take a beating.

Designer Eric Glesser
Eric Glesser is the son of Sal Glesser, founder of Spyderco. As a child, he used to sit in a box under the table while his parents sold knives at fairs. Today, Eric runs the day-to-day operations at Spyderco. Eric is an accomplished knife designer himself. Some of the most popular Spyderco knives were designed by Eric Glesser.

Spyderco: great pioneer in the world of knives
Spyderco is one of the world’s leading knife companies. Many innovations were made by this brand, think of the pocket clip, the thumb hole, a large range of locking mechanisms, but also steel types. It’s safe to say the knife world would have looked very different indeed without Spyderco.

Spyderco was founded in 1976 by Sal and Gail Glesser. Interestingly, they didn’t start out selling knives. The first product Sal and Gail sold was a soldering tool, which they sold travelling around markets. Then came a sharpening system, causing Sal to start experimenting with pocket knives. In his quest for a knife that was easier to open with one hand, he came up with the idea for a round thumb hole while experimenting. A stroke of pure genius.

Today, the next generation is at the helm of Spyderco. Eric Glesser, the son of Sal and Gail, works hard every day to further establish Spyderco as a leading knife brand.
